Xpeng has proven itself to be one of the standout startups from China’s seemingly ever-growing electric vehicle industry and has just unveiled its latest model. Dubbed the G6, it takes the form of a fastback SUV that will directly rival the Nio EC6.

Two variants of the Xpeng G6 will be available. The entry-level model will be driven by a rear-mounted electric motor with 292 hp (218 kW) while the all-wheel drive ‘Performance’ model will also rock an electric motor at the rear axle. This will result in a combined 487 hp (358 kW) and while we don’t yet know how quickly the two versions will accelerate, the spec sheet states that both will have a 202 km/h (125 mph) top speed.

Limited details about the G6’s battery are known but the company is said to be sourcing them from CALB Group and that nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistries will be offered. Given that the larger Xpeng G9 also has batteries supplied by CALB Group that are offered in 78.2 kWh and 98 kWh guises, the G6’s batteries are expected to be the same.

The exterior styling of the G6 is quite intriguing. The bodywork consists primarily of flowing surfaces with very few sharp creases or edges. This is particularly evident at the front where there is a smooth LED light bar, a black lower bumper, and black headlamp clusters. The license plate holder has also been neatly incorporated into the bumper.

This flowing design philosophy continues along the sides with simple bodywork and door handles that sit flush with the bodywork. The rocker panels have a black finish and two different wheel designs will be offered. Key elements of the SUV’s rear fascia include the LED light bar, black bumper, and large ‘XPENG’ lettering across the tailgate.

While pricing details of the model are not yet known, production is expected to start shortly.
