A video from China offers a comparison between the battery packs of the BYD Han and the Tesla Model 3. While both electric sedans are competitors in the Chinese market, their battery packs differ significantly.

The video points out that the BYD Han’s battery is optimized for cost, evident in its plastic battery cover fixed with screws. In contrast, the Model 3’s battery pack is covered with metal and sealed with screws and a gelatinous substance, making it more waterproof and better sealed.

The cooling systems of the two batteries also differ. The BYD Han’s battery utilizes a cooling water plate attached to the top surface of the battery cells. The host of the video compares this cooling solution to placing a bottle of ice-cold water on one’s cheek on a hot day. On the other hand, the Model 3’s battery cooling solution is likened to drinking ice-cold water on a hot day, suggesting that it is superior to BYD’s cooling method.

It is important to note that the BYD Han and the Tesla Model 3 use different battery designs. The BYD Han employs the company’s Blade Batteries, similar to Tesla’s 4680 structural battery pack. Meanwhile, the Model 3 in the video utilizes Tesla’s older 2170 battery units.

Although the comparison between the two batteries is interesting, it would be intriguing to see a comparison between the BYD Han’s Blade Battery and Tesla’s 4680 structural battery pack. Even with its older battery design, the Model 3’s battery appears sophisticated compared to BYD’s structural pack.
